<< Chapter 5. >>
Snowman
It was late morning. Mummy was getting ready to go out. She put her make-up on and her best clothes.
Grid Teddy was observing her actions with curiosity.
· Mummy, what is in this small round box? – asked Grid Teddy.
· Eyeshadow. – answered Mummy.
· What do you use it for? – wanted to know Teddy.
· To make my face beautiful. – said Mummy.
· But you are beautiful even without it. –Grid Teddy assured her.
· Oh, thank you , my darling. – answered Mummy very pleased. – I have to go now. Be good. I will be back soon.
Grid Teddy waited until the door slammed and crawled to the mirror. He looked at himself. Ears in place, black eyes shining with intelligence, blue-white grid, still clean, made the complete body. He scratched his right ear. “ I can’t say I am not pleased with my look, but there is always something that can be improved. “ – he thought. – “ If Mummy uses eye-she, eye-shu, this eye-something to make herself more beautiful, how about if I use something as well? How about this white box with a lid? “ – murmured Grid Teddy and he opened the lid. The box contained a white coloured face cream for dry complexion.
Grid Teddy touched the cream with his paw. It was nicely warm and greasy. Grid Teddy decided to have another dip and put some on his little face. He was not sure about the outcome, but had another dip. A strip of cream on the forehead, on the cheeks and on the chin. He spread it evenly all over his face. Then he looked at the mirror.
The grid was no longer visible. Instead, he saw a face of a snowman with black eyes. His paws and tummy with the grid pattern did not really match the white head he had now. He decided to get rid of the cream. Grid Teddy tried to wipe it off on a piece of cloth that was lying around. It did not work. The cream was still on his face. It did not matter how hard Grid Teddy tried to wipe it off, the cream just would not go. He started crying. At this moment Mummy came back.
· Hello everybody – said Mummy. – Hello Koobush, Tex, Goggy, Goomish and…ehhm…What is your name, little one? – asked Mummy pointing at Grid Teddy. – Are you related to snowman?
· Oh Mummy, don’t you recognise me, it’s me, Grid Teddy! I just wanted to be prettier and used one of your creams and it will not come off now. – sobbed Grid Teddy.
· Let me have a look. – said Mummy.
She tried to wipe the cream off with a handkerchief, but so much cream was rubbed into Grid Teddy’s fur that it was impossible to wipe.
· I am sorry to say it, but I will have to give you a bath. – said Mummy.
Later on Grid Teddy was put onto a radiator to dry. Luckily the cream came off and he was back to his white and blue grid, as happy as ever.
